Preparation for funding applications (AUT)

The Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) supports company-related research and development, while the Austria Wirtschaftsservice (aws) supports innovative projects in various phases. The FWF promotes high-ranking sciences, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber offers comprehensive start-up support, and the Christian Doppler Research Association promotes science-business cooperation.

Aws PreSeed Innovative Solutions: Up to €100,000 for natural persons in the Soft/LowTech sector, 1-year duration, non-repayable grant.

Aws PreSeed DeepTech: Up to €200,000 for high innovation levels, natural persons in the Soft/LowTech sector, non-repayable grant.

Aws Seed Innovative Solution: Up to €400,000 & 90% funding rate, usable for various costs.

Aws Seed DeepTech: Up to €800,000 & 100% funding rate, 2-5 years duration, repayable upon business success.

FFG Basisprogramm: Up to €1,000,000 per year, grant and loan, suitable for project-related costs.

Preparation for funding applications (EU)

The EIC Accelerator, an initiative of the European Innovation Council, offers an outstanding opportunity to finance and invest in SMEs that want to develop visionary innovations and technologies. If you think your idea can fundamentally change the market, but private investors are hesitant to get involved due to potential risks, the EIC Accelerator program is tailor-made for you. There are two forms of financial support to choose from:

1. non-dilutive grant funding: This can amount to up to 2.5 million euros and enables you to advance your project without having to give up capital shares.

2. direct participation: For particularly ambitious projects, the EIC Accelerator program offers the option of direct participation with financial support of up to 15 million euros.

In addition to these funding opportunities, the program provides support through coaching, mentoring, and networking activities. This valuable assistance is offered through the EIC Fund (from 2022), owned by the European Commission. The EIC Accelerator program places special emphasis on innovative ideas and particularly welcomes startups and SMEs led by women.

The EIC Pathfinder is another groundbreaking initiative of the European Innovation Council. This program aims to support researchers and research teams in the development and exploration of revolutionary new technologies. If you are part of an innovative SME, a research organization, or a university in need of support for research activities, the EIC Pathfinder is the ideal point of contact. It offers grants ranging from an impressive 3 to 4 million euros to enable the emergence of future technologies.

The EIC Pathfinder operates through open calls for proposals that support projects in all scientific or technological disciplines, as well as thematic calls that address specific topics and issues outlined by the EIC.

Horizon Europe, with an impressive overall budget of 95.5 billion euros, is at the core of EU research and innovation funding. This program has a clear vision that aims to overcome climate change, promote collaboration and innovation within the EU, create new jobs, and achieve the sustainable development goals of the United Nations.
